Purpose
The purpose of this evaluation is to ascertain the candidate is in control of their aircraft and can perform the minimum maneuvers required to fly safely at the Stern farm flying site. They also need to be able to correctly identify the no-fly boundary locations.
Flying Requirements
Step 1
Perform a controlled takeoff then complete 2 figure eight circuits of the field without straying into any of the no-fly areas. The two figure eight passes should be opposite directions (i.e. one pass with a turn toward the pit area on the north side and the other pass with a turn away from the pit area on the north side). The candidate should then perform a controlled landing within the mown strip area.
Step 2
Perform a controlled takeoff then fly at least one rectangular circuit of the runway. All turns should be within the tree boundaries (ie not over or beyond the grabber tree or the south end tree line). The candidate should then perform a controlled landing within the mown strip area.
Passing Requirements
The candidate will only be allowed to fly solo if they exhibit knowledge of the no-fly zone areas and complete the above requirements to the instructor’s satisfaction. They must also end both steps with the plane still in a flyable condition.
